Homemade Chocolate Syrup

I don't know about at your house, but we can run through the chocolate syrup.  I am not excited about the amount of sugar in the leading brand (HFCS yuk :p).  We started buying Nesquik brand.  It does not contain high fructose corn syrup, but it does not come in a very big container.

We have been out of chocolate syrup for a while now.... like weeks.  The 5 year old is unimpressed by my lack of concern for his chocolate milk addiction.

In the very back of my recipe binder, filed under misc, is a recipe I found last year on a homeschool forum for homemade chocolate syrup.  I wish I could remember exactly where so I could credit them.

Home Made Chocolate Syrup

1 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa ( I used Hershey's, obviously)
2 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 1/3 cup water
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp Vanilla

In a sauce pan, mix together cocoa, sugar and salt.  Slowly, pour in boiling water.  Stir over a medium flame, until smooth and slightly thickened (10 mins +/-).
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla
Keep refrigerated.
The boys loved it.  In fact, Kolby said "you should make this all the time".  I think I will.
